This pub is mentioned in Bagshaw's Directory of 1846 when there were three inns and four beer houses to quench the thirst of the local population of 1271 (compared with about 700 today). It is a steeply roofed, cream painted pub on the main street with an interesting building to its side. Today it is mainly a food pub and is handily located for walks into Calke Park.
Reopened in June 2025 after a reported £315,000 refurbishment.
