  • Historic Interior

Built in 1923 this pub has barely changed. In the lounge the fireplace with inglenook, centre table and chairs are all original; the public bar is similar though the smoke room and accommodation have gone. Up to two guest beers can be available although just Pedigree is available in quieter times. The upstairs function room holds upto 120 people and is available for hire. Live music most Friday evenings. No food on Mondays.

Two star - A pub interior of very special national historic interest

Listed status: II

A suburban pub/hotel built in 1923 in 'Brewers' Tudor' style and with much to enjoy despite subsequent alterations.

The front bar has been knocked about a bit, including shortening of the bar counter and installation of a new bar-back - it has also been extended to incorporate the former off-sales area . The corridor area is served by a small curved, glazed counter. The rear right room has a fine array of panelling but was opened out to the corridor in 2005. The large back room is opulently panelled and dominated by a magnificent inglenook fireplace. The counter is original (but bar-back new) as are the leaded windows, bench seating and some of the tables and chairs - the coffin-shaped table in the middle of the room is worthy of note. Some inter-war fittings can also be found in the upstairs function room, an amalgamation of formerly separate rooms.

General information about historic pub interiors

Built 1923 in 'brewers' Tudor' style this suburban pub/hotel retains its three room layout. The front bar has bench seating, 2 large baffles, brick fireplace with wood surround, original bar counter which has been shortened but the top part of the bar back is new. The room has been extended to the far left by incorporation of the former off-sales area. A small curved, glazed bar counter serves the corridor area. The rear right hand room has a good array of panelling but was sadly knocked through to the corridor areas in 2005. The large back room (left) is opulently panelled and is dominated by a magnificent inter-war inglenook fireplace. It retains its original bar counter, (bar back is new), leaded windows, bench seating and, possibly, some of the original tables and chairs - the coffin shaped table in the middle of the room certainly looks authentic. The upstairs function room is an amalgamation of separate rooms and has inter-war fittings including a glazed-in servery with glazed sash windows and two fireplaces.
