This Pub is Closed Long Term
Owner hoping to convert in to flats or similar but often threatens to re-open.
No planning applications for this shown for the past on 13/1/22.
Permission agreed to refurbish pub with single storey reaer extension, but subject to conditions (07/00874/FUL).
The following information was in the Castlethorpe Parish Council minutes for January 2023: closed for many years the pub’s owner had always maintained he would renovate and re-open it, but in March 2022 he announced he would be selling the pub. He offered to sell the pub to the village at ‘a realistic market price’ but following a questionnaire put to the residents it was decided that this was not feasible. Although there was not a significant response, the questionnaire returns also indicated a strong preference to develop a club house at the sports ground.
In CAMRA’s view, a “realistic market price” would be for operation as a pub and take into account the expenditure needed to address its inevitable deterioration given its closure for more than 10 years. The owner, however, might think it means a “development price”. As a Grade II listed building (in the village conservation area) the only pub in the village and MK Planning policy, I think planning permission for conversion to a home would be hard to come by (and the actual conversion would be very expensive).
