This Pub is Permanently Closed

Built in the reign of King Charles I, The Crown Inn occupies a commanding position right in the centre of the Sussex County Town of Lewes within easy walking distance of all the town's sights and amenities. The earliest mention of the Inn was as The Black Lyon in 1638 when Henry Townsend was the landlord. In 1790 Joseph Spittle changed the name to the Crown Inn.William IV while in residence at the Royal Pavilion entertained at the Crown. Dark wooden panelling dominates the bar interior. 2 handpumps on the counter.

March 2017 - currently closed and up for sale

Sept 2017 - rumoured to have been bought by Wetherspoons.

Mar 2019 - now to be converted to housing use.
