Historic Interest
In May 1981 it was known as Yate's Wine Lodge and only sold keg beer. Grade II listed building. However by September 1983 it was selling both Mild and Bitter from Thwaites and Wilsons. A Branch Charisma night was held here on November 30th 1984, but after a refurbishment the cask beers had disappeared. It was to be July 1988 before cask beer returned with Boddingtons Bitter after a request by the landlord. In the 1989 Beer in Bolton Guide it was listed as selling Boddingtons Bitter (H). By the summer the Boddingtons Bitter had gone and been replaced with Thwaites Best Mild and Bitter. In early 1991 the normal handpumps were swapped for some mini ones. It wasn't listed in the 1992 Great Northern Beer Festival programme, so must have gone keg. This was confirmed in Bolton Drinker 2 when the range of beers were all Keg Bass products. It was refurbished again in early 1995. By 2010 Boddingtons Bitter was in favour again and a guest beer. By 2015 this had changed to Bank Top Flat Cap and a guest beer. In late 2017 there was a refurbishment and the pub was closed and the handpumps were removed. It was 2024 before Cask beer returned when there were two nationally branded beers on the bar, usually including Sharps Doom Bar. By this time the bar was doomed and closed on 04/01/2025.
