Conveniently situated three miles from Newbury centre and one mile from the A34 bypass, this rambling Victorian building was originally built for workers on the nearby Benyon estate and is named after the 1855 Derby winner. Now owned by Arkell's Brewery, it offers more upmarket food than the usual pub grub. Recently five en-suite bedrooms have been added. Voted CAMRA Community Pub of the Year for the Branch in 2011, and for Berkshire in 2012. Jack and Amanda have been managing the pub since January 2014. The changing seasonal ale may be from Arkell's or Donnington breweries.
