This small, long, elegant pub is named after John Shanks (see picture) who was a shoemaker and an important figure in the conservation of Elgin Cathedral. Sponsored by local gentleman, Isaac Forsyth, Shanks cleared the grounds of centuries of rubbish dumping and rubble and was officially appointed Keeper and Watchman in 1826.

Excellent coffee and cakes; plus imaginative breakfast, lunch and dinner menu. Bar meals most of the day and restaurant meals only every day.

A growing whisky collection stands at around 100 with large Gin and Cocktail selection. Under new management, reopened mid July 2021, and no longer selling real ale.

Outside drinking on benches in lane with awnings and heaters.

Note that opening may not be until 4pm in winter through the week.
