Rambling mansion multi-level house converted to a friendly country house hotel; dating from 1588 with numerous later additions. It is set in extensive grounds, running down to the seashore and is allegedly haunted by the 18th century ghost of Barbara Pitcairn.

An extensive range of over 150 malt whiskies are available in the lounge. Near the centre of Shetland mainland and Mavis Grind where the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea are separated only by the width of the road.
