1810 Creative launch a limited edition pub heritage artwork at the Great British Beer Festival

A bespoke artwork based on the Campaign For Real Ale’s heritage pubs will be unveiled by design studio 1810 Creative at the Great British Beer Festival.

The unique piece of art is the result of a collaboration between CAMRA’s Pub Heritage Group and the designers to celebrate pub history with a high quality, conceptual piece, which features data from the bookBritain’s Best Real Heritage Pubs by Geoff Brandwood.

The aim of the project was to blend analysis of the data with a clean, simple design which has resulted in a beautiful, and interesting piece of art.

Using the pub’s geographical position as a starting point, the artwork conceptualises the map of pub locations into constellations in an imaginary sky. Historically, only the best and brightest stars have been woven into known constellations, and this echoes the research and selection that Geoff and his team have undertaken.

Each heritage pub is represented by a white star, while clusters of pubs in the same city are represented by a yellow star. City clusters are then shown as geographically arranged constellations down each side of the piece. A background of 52,750 stars, representing the total estimated UK pub stock, has been painstakingly set by hand to form a beautiful and ethereal galaxy.

The limited edition prints, each of which comes with a certificate of authenticity, will be available for purchase from the Heritage Pubs stand at a price of £75.

Kevin Lunn, Director at 1810 Creative said: We are thrilled to be launching 1810 Creative’s latest data-artwork at this year’s Great British Beer Festival. Rarely have we enjoyed researching a project more than Constellations of Britain’s Best Real Heritage Pubs.

“It’s been a real pleasure working with Geoff, and to have received the creative freedom to represent the UK’s heritage pubs in an exciting and unexpected way. We hope our artwork goes some way to celebrate these unique and beautiful interiors.

Paul Ainsworth Chair of Pub Campaigning said: “We’re delighted that 1810 Creative will be launching their artwork at the Great British Beer Festival – the piece is the perfect gift for the lover of pubs and history who has everything.”

The launch comes in the same week that CAMRA releases its latest title Real Heritage Pubs of the North West, by Geoff Brandwood, who will be available to sign copies of his latest title at the Festival Membersip Stand on Friday 11th August at 4pm.
