18th-century pub at the bottom of the High Street handy for the bus station and town centre shops. The cosy front lounge has a roaring fire in winter; the area around the main bar has stone flags and the traditional cobbled courtyard has decking with comfortable seating, a canopy and infra-red heaters. A recent upgrade opened the main bar area out into a previously outdoor area. The split level restaurant serves food throughout the day and there are 12 en-suite rooms upstairs. Serves all six regular beers plus one Timothy Taylor seasonal.
