The Windhover was refurbished in 2022 with the exterior giving the impression of a much older building than it is. The interior has an oldie worldy but tasteful and cosy interior with numerous dining area, and a large bar with lots of little nooks. Outside to the front is and extensive lawned garden with many tables and chairs, with some featuring umbrellas. The pub is an ideal starting point for the Brampton Valley way which passes next door as does the Northampton & Lamport Railway.
The building is on land previously known to house the Boughton Cold Store, as it was a supply depot during the Second World War. The Boughton Cold Store was built to store perishable goods like butter, cheese and margarine. These stores were built close to the railway line, to make the loading and unloading of supplies easy for the Ministry of Food. Converted in 1998, this large building is reached through a frontal porch which leads straight into the flag-stoned bar area.
