This Pub is Temporarily Closed

Following a dispute with the tenant, the pub closed in May 2025. He was evicted in October 2025, but due to damage a major refurbishment is now planned. This is due to take place in February 2026 with reopening envisaged sometime in March 2026.

On the main road into Godalming on the corner of Hare Lane, this pub has been in operation for some 300 years and is renowned for its live music.

There is one large bar with distinct areas: the bar itself and a lounge-type area which leads to the part where musicians usually perform. Doors at the back lead to a patio area with a large awning to protect smokers, thence to a good-sized garden with canopied seating. A glass panel exposes the workings of the hand pumps. Well-behaved dogs are welcome inside, as are families.

A long-standing feature of the Three Lions is live music, with something held most nights.

Historic Interest

There has been a pub on this site for 300 years & most of the building is at least as old as that. On the main road into Godalming on the corner of Hare Lane, this pub has been in operation for some 300 years, with records going back to at least 1723. In 1891 it passed to Lascelles Tickner of Guildford, which was taken over by Friary, Holroyd and Healy’s (also of Guildford) in the 1920’s. Via further mergers ownership passed to Ind Coope, thence to Allied Lyons and Carlsberg Tetley. However a few years ago it was acquired by Shepherd Neame of Faversham.
