This is a friendly fully-restored 16th-century village local, reputedly visited by Henry VIII, hence the name. Low beams, lots of snugs and rooms with open fires in winter enhance the traditional pub atmosphere. Freshly cooked meals using local produce are available lunchtimes and evenings. The beer varies regularly, and is usually from Cornish brewery Firebrand or another local brewer.. The Standard is now part of the Hidden Hut pubs empire.
