Next to the Red Lion is the Market Hall, opened by Viscount Palmerston in 1860.

One of the oldest established inns in Pontefract, the present façade was designed by Robert Adam in 1776 for Sir Rowland Winn of Nostell Priory, here Robert Adam's original drawing can be found.
