Town-centre pub with a single open-plan area at ground level featuring large windows onto the street, and a good collection of old photographs on the walls of the staircase to the toilets (disabled toilet on ground floor). Excavations prior to its building produced an ivory tuning peg from a mediaeval musical instrument (now in Chelmsford Museum). Food is served all day with alcohol available from 9am. As with other Wetherspoon pubs beer festivals are held twice a year with a cider festival in the Summer.
