Situated on the ground floor (Level -2) within the newer northern part of the Westfield shopping complex and beneath John Lewis, Ichiba claims to be Europe's largest Japanese food hall with over three thousand Japanese products. It aims "to bring the best artisanal food, drink, homewares and gifts from Japan to London". It is the first joint venture between the Japan Centre Group and Cool Japan Fund, which helps support businesses to promote Japanese food and culture overseas.
Street foods such as takayaki, tempura and noodles are available plus of course favourites like sushi and sashimi. There is a café with various delicious Japanese bakery delicacies, and a sake bar also selling draught beers including Kirin, Kirin Frozen, Ashai, and Hitachino White. Well worth visiting for the Japanese experience, and the exquisite politeness of the staff!
