11-15 Alfreton Road, Canning Circus, Nottingham: Central, NG7 3JE (View on Google Map)

Opened in 2020, the Good Fellow George is a former bank in a curved mid-20th century building . Large windows overlook the busy Canning Circus junctions and with the high ceiling gives a very airy feel. The bar frontage is adorned with 2p pieces, commemorating the building's former use. The pub offers three handpumps, usually offering local ales, nine craft beers and two cider taps. Overlooked by a balcony room, with a small backyard area. Selection of snacks such as tapas, olives, cheeses, cold cuts and bread available. The pub features hanging baskets and plants from a trader in Sneinton market.

Historic Interest

A former NatWest bank in a curving mid-20th century building circa 1960, built as part of the post-war improvements to the Radford area. Note how the building follows the line of St. Helen's Street as part of the modern gyratory system around Canning Circus which replaced the earlier and much prettier traffic roundabout in the centre of the circus. Located in Nottingham City Council's Gamble Street & Alfreton Road Conservation Area. [Nottingham City Council; Radford & Park Ward / Nottingham South Parliamentary Constituency]
