Large two storey split level estate pub, built in 1968 on the northern edge of Plymouth. It has a surprisingly unspoilt interior comprising the large lounge bar on the right (mostly used for events) with views of the rolling south Devon hills. The public bar is to the left when you enter. This is very much a community pub. It is believed that one real ale is available, which is usually Sharp's Doom bar.
Historic Interest
It is listed on CAMRA's Regional Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors for the South West. The Public Bar has changed little since the pub was built in the late 1960's, which is a rarity in itself. The bar counter is a real period piece - stone panels, with copper strips on the front, below a chunky wooden top.
One star - A pub interior of special national historic interest
Listed status: Not listed
1960s-built estate pub which, unlike most interiors from that era, has suffered little change. It’s not conventionally attractive, at least to some eyes, but is a rare reminder of a once-common decorative style. In the cavernous public bar, the counter is a real period piece – stone panels with copper strips on the front below a chunky wooden top. The bar-back is simple but intact and elsewhere are a raised balustraded section with bench seating on two sides, a darts area with pillared partitions (one of which has been reduced to half height) and a lino-tiled pool area at the far end. The L-shaped lounge also has a counter redolent of its period with the panels also appearing above the bar and carried on around the corner plus another simple bar-back (some shelves removed) and more balustrades. A hatch for food service is currently out of use.
This Pub serves no changing beers and 1 regular beer.
