A coaching inn in the 18th century, this is now a friendly and lively town centre pub with modern guest accommodation. Converted into one large room, it retains some sense of separate spaces. Major sporting events are shown on two screens. Three hand pumps dispense the cask beers; often mainstream brands with occasional local ales.
The quieter restaurant area, reached via steps through a barrel-vaulted passageway, has been converted from the old cellar; it is advisable to book at weekends. Food is available Tuesday to Sunday, with a wide choice of bar meals at lunchtime.
A stepped terrace at the rear provides more space in the warmer months. The pub can fill up in the evening, especially at weekends.
Tables can be reserved on the website.
This Pub serves 2 changing beers and 1 regular beer.
