Friendly local pub in the Northburn area of this new town, named after an old coal seam. 3 handpulls offer Jennings Cumberland ale and two ever-changing guest ales. This Cask Marque accredited pub is part of the Mitchells & Butlers chain, and so serves food daily until 9pm in the lounge area, which is suitable for families. Live sport is shown on the various screens, and the premises is frequented by the local constabulary when they're off duty.
