Listed in the Good Beer Guide every year since 1993, this is a Georgian listed building with bare brick walls and wooden floorboards, comprising two small rooms downstairs and two similar rooms up a steep staircase. Sociable pub, popular with both locals and visitors who appreciate the excellent selection of ales and friendly ambience. The diverse beer range usually includes some from smaller national and Yorkshire breweries, including at least one dark and one gluten free, also a range of craft kegs. The pub often holds beer events such as tap takeovers, including the twice yearly 'Women on Tap' celebrating female brewers. Of particular interest is the trompe l’oeil painting on the exterior which features the pub’s namesake, Blind Jack Metcalf.
