This is a club, which means that the bar may be only open to members.
Individual subscriptions £10/year; open to all. Non-members welcome: sign in and £1 fee for attending activities/functions; visitors can be signed in by members; entry OK for ‘business purposes’.
Long established 'community club' near town centre.
Front entrance leads to small hallway: left to basic but comfortable bar, with dart board and pool table; right to large, smartly furnished function room with stage and parquet dance floor. There is a small cosy lounge beyond the bar (also accessible from the function room), off which there are stairs leading to a snooker room (with 3 snooker tables).
Bingo Tuesday, Friday and Saturday evenings, and Sunday lunchtime; live music Saturday evenings.
Various clubs/groups meet here regularly: Weight-Watchers, a retired miners group, Burton & District Clubs Snooker League, and the Swadlincote & District Branch of the Royal British Legion.
The club also owns a bowling green and associated facilities across the road.
Historic Interest
Founded nearby (site not known) in 1918 as a Royal British Legion Club, but moved to the present site in 1921. Dwindling membership and financial problems resulted in its being sold to the members in the 1960s, thereby allowing wider membership eligibility and the change of name to the current one.
This Club serves no changing beers and 2 regular beers.
