Known locally as 'The Sett' this two-roomed free house is popular with fishermen and twitchers as it is close to the Anglers Country Park. Can be reached from Wakefield using Nos. 194/5/6 buses (to Hemsworth or Newstead) GBG says: a rural alehouse that is an increasingly rare example of a no frills old fashioned community pub. There is a lively local clientele with many old pitmen and many old tales to be told. Close to Anglers Country Park, Haw Wood and the Transpennine Trail. Wintersett Lakes Camping & Caravanning is a short walk away. Due to its isolated location it may close early if trade is slow, and the pub is not normally open Tuesday evenings.
