The Castle is as the name suggests immediately adjacent to the grade 1 ruins of Halton Castle. The pub itself is the 18th century grade 2* listed courthouse. There are magnificent views towards both Liverpool and Cheshire.
There are two rooms downstairs, each with an open fire hearth. Upstairs there is a function room with a small bar (no real ale).
New operator from 6th April 2024. Keg beer only initially, food offering from May, real ale from June. Keep a watch on social media for developments.
Nearby is the Cheshire Library, one of the earliest free library's in England.
Historic Interest
Built in 1070 for Nigel, First Norman Baron of Halton. The present ruins are believed to be 13th century. The pub itself is the 18th century converted courthouse.
