Built in 1850, the pub closed in 1971 to become the club house of the mens own rugby club until they relocated to their new ground and club house in 1982. The pub then re-opened as the Spread Eagle again. This is an end of terrace pub near a busy traffic junction recently refurbished on a main road. There is a bus stop virtually outside the front door. The bar area is U-shaped with seating and further seating to the front of the pub. There is a strong association with the local Irish community that provides a comfortable, homely atmosphere in the pub. There is a disco on Fridays & Saturdays and live music on Sundays.
