Operating from at least 1850 when it was listed in Bagshaw’s Directory. May also have been known as the Argyle Inn in the 1850s. An Argyle Brewery pub (became Birkenhead Brewery), acquired by Yates's in 1891. Became a John Smiths pub then acquired by Wilsons. The old photo shows the pub in the 1950s.
