With the closure of the nearby Swiss Cottage this is now the last pub standing in the area. From the Ham & High, "Like Ye Olde Swiss Cottage the pub was used as a coaching inn. Moves are underway to try to get its historic neighbour listed as an asset of community value, giving people in the area a stake in its future should it come on the market. The North Star is a striking building and might be an equally big loss if it were to close - perhaps even a greater one as it is now the last pub standing." Foe full article go to

The pub was purpose built in 1850, shortly after the Finchley Road was driven through. The style is high Victorian, with a wrought iron balcony across the frontage. The Jubilee line is 3 feet below the cellar floor. The building is on a steep slope, so drinking spaces are at a different heights, and the large patio at the back can be covered and heated and is on three levels.
The interior has only a few original features left: there are two marble fire surrounds and a darts board in the back corner. Food includes bar snacks and daily specials, popular with local workers coming in for lunch. Food served: 12.00 - 20.00 except Fri (closes at 15.00). C11, 13, 82, 113, 187, 268.
Please note the food hours cannot be guaranted - all we know is that "the kitchen does close early on a Sunday".
