This early 15th century old coaching inn was originally the mayor's parlour and the magistrates' court met here in this red tiled building. In the meantime smugglers were sitting in the back room for their trading. The pub name refers to the business that brought so much prosperity to this part of Kent.
Excellent bar and restaurant food is available from the landlord's local farm, it is a good place to stay for a short break in Tenterden. Quiz evenings alternate Mondays.
