Smartly renovated residential hotel on the main Belper to Derby road. Whilst diners may predominate, the bar to the right of the front entrance has 4-5 hand pumps dispensing beers mainly from the Marston's range. There is a pizza oven and separate restaurant; meals can also be eaten in the bar or outside areas. Outside part covered courtyard seating area and large garden on AstroTurf to the rear.
Historic Interest
A former coaching inn dating back to at least the 18th century and had a thatched roof until 1834. Horse drawn coaches passed through daily but ceased operating upon the opening of the railway around 1840. The Lion operated an omnibus from 1852 that attended all trains at the old Belper Station which at that time was on Goods Road.
