Our second International Women's Day beer, Pirate Queen will be launched on 8 March, 7pm at The Baum, Rochdale. Bríd's Cross invited members of the public to take part in designing, naming, and brewing this collaboration brew and also partnered with IWCBD and Women on Tap.
We opted for a strong independent woman of history, Grace O'Malley, pirate queen of County Mayo as our inspiration for our Tale behind the Ale. Pirate Queen is a Hazy Pale Ale, 4% using CF162 hops for citric fruit overtones. This hop is the result of a hop breeding programme cultivated by Ali Capper. She has worked tirelessly for British Agriculture and was chair of NFU Horticulture and Potatoes board.
Our charity partner, Women of Whitworth who took part in the brew day, will receive a percentage of sales - so come down the The Baum and drink us dry and support local causes.
IWCBD and Women on Tap offered our brew day crew the opportunity to study WSET Level 1 in Beer Award.
Pirate Queen will also be available in other venues, including Whitworth Band Club, Red Lion Whitworth and Flying Horse Rochdale to name but a few.
