Reopened July 2023 following refurbishment removing handpumps in the process. Pub has high ceilings, exposed wall’s and timber elements. Sofa’s against the walls which contain vibrant art and retro mirrors. Raised mezzanine level at rear. Traditional British favourites menu and Sunday Roasts. 16 draught keg beers on offer from around the world. Live sports on supersize screens including above the bar (which is fronted by stools and green tiling) and DJ’s on Friday & Saturday nights.
The following Article was published to coincide with the reopening.
Closed 25 May 2023 after 30 years being operated by the same family. See their F/Book page while it remains live. Apparently it'll be taken over by an independent chain that runs about 10 pubs including the The Brondes Age in Kilburn. So hopefully it remains as a pub (probably with a name change). We wish Mary from the Cobden all best wishes for the future.
As it was:
Beers came from the Molson Coors cask list which seems to offer variety - Thwaites Wainwright's was on sale alongside Doom Bar although the latter may change. Split-level, the entrance leads into a wooden floored main bar, with a raised, carpeted area further back. Sports coverage via two screens, while background music is kept to reasonably quiet levels. The overtly Irish theme previously present also seems to have gone and the make-over results in a fairly comfortable lounge bar feel probably looking for a slightly older audience than some of the more frenetic pubs nearer the Lock. Thai food served 18.00 - 22.00. Food from a more standard pub menu is served Mon - Fri 12.00 - 15.00, Sat/Sun 1 2.00 - 16.00. Nearest tube Mornington Crescent.
