A back street community pub close to the railway station. It's popular for pub games teams, including a pool league team and a darts team planned. All major sports fixtures are shown on Sky. Two changing cask beers.

Historic Interest

Originally a beerhouse called the Railway Tavern (as opposed to the Railway Inn, the modern-day Railway pub by the station). Licensing records trace the pub back to at least 1877 (the earliest available). It was originally licensed as a beerhouse & only got a full license on March 14th 1957. it's not clear to us exactly when the name changed to the Cooper's Dip, but the 1972 telephone directory lists the Railway Tavern, whereas the 1981 directory lists the Cooper's Dip. So the change was sometime inbetween. From 1911 to 1931, the landlord was Francis Barker Cooper - perhaps the source of the pub's unusual name? The name reverted to Railway Tavern more recently.
