This Pub is Permanently Closed

Now demolished.........But.....

The Castle, Golders Green was located at 452 Finchley Road, and was a popular live music venue. It had a large beer garden and attracted a local crowd. It closed in 2012 and was demolished for housing in 2016, despite a campaign to try and save it from local residents and Councillors. Barnet Council rejected an application to list the pub as an asset of community value - voting instead to demolish the 250 year old pub - destroying a valued part of Child's Hill history. There is a plaque on the new resident block of flats - "Near this site was situated A Toll Gate abolished in 1871."
