Local community pub with two bars and a separate restaurant in the conservatory serving good food. All food is freshly prepared and cooked using local suppliers where possible. It is said that Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman visited the pub during the filming of Eyes Wide Shut. Many years ago the pub was named the Bird in Hand but changed when the London to Bedford railway was built in 1868. The conservatory doubles as a restaurant and function room. Most major sports events are screened in the public bar. On Monday there is 25% off all pints of cask ale, and there is a weekly quiz on Tuesday evening,
This Pub serves no changing beers and 4 regular beers.

The Charter Market Quarter has many historical links. One of the only free-standing medieval civic clock towers, the site of the First Battle of St. Albans in 1455, during the Wars of the Roses. Allegedly the Boot Inn played host to soldiers fighting in the battle. There used to be 23 pubs around the Market area!
The northern end of the Market is dominated by St. Peter’s church, one of the three churches originally built by the Saxon’s on the main pilgrim routes into St. Albans. Soak up the history and architecture of the area, as well as music history!
This area is packed with history and interesting pubs, some open, and some no longer with us.
