This is a club, which means that the bar may be only open to members.

Harpenden Cricket Club run six Saturday and two Sunday sides playing in the Hertfordshire Cricket League. At Colts level, the club runs sides at under 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and under 15 age groups with a number of colts playing at county. There is also an expanding and successful number of girls teams, ranging in age from 9 to 13.

The bar opens on Saturday and Sunday from 3pm and all weekday evenings when a match is being played on the Common (from May to the end of July this is virtually every night). There is no requirement to produce a CAMRA membership card to buy a drink at the bar.

Historic Interest

Harpenden Cricket Club was established in 1863 and have played on Harpenden Common since that date. Over the years many changes have taken place, including amalgamating with Harpenden Ferndale Cricket Club and Garpenden Wednesday Cricket Club.

The Charter Market Quarter has many historical links. One of the only free-standing medieval civic clock towers, the site of the First Battle of St. Albans in 1455, during the Wars of the Roses. Allegedly the Boot Inn played host to soldiers fighting in the battle. There used to be 23 pubs around the Market area!
