The pub is of typical Georgian design, and in the 18th and early 19th centuries it was Wymondham's main coaching inn. The large archway to the left of the pub leads to what were once the stables. During this period it was also a centre of entertainment where wrestling, music and other sports contests were promoted.
The bar area has high tables whilst the front room has conventional pub tables. To the right and rear is the The Masonic Room. The architecture in this room is very unusual having a classical theme with Grecian arches.
A new bar was fitted in 2026, accommodating 10 hand pumps, the largest choice in the town. Beers from Norfolk independents such as Moon Gazer, Wolf and Lacons. Usually one or two beers from Oakham and Timothy Taylor.
Regular beer festivals are held, with all ales cooled and served through handpumps. The pub features live music and a quiz night and carvery on Sundays. There's also a homemade pizza night on Thursdays.
The rear garden was remodelled and extended in 2022 and offers a large and welcoming outdoor eating and drinking area.
