This Pub is Permanently Closed

The Wheatsheaf stood opposite The Bell in the village centre. It is know to have traded since 1860, and in the early 20th century it was part of the tied estate of Maidstone brewers Style & Winch. Eventually it came into the hands of Courage after a series of mergers and takeovers.

Sadly the pub closed in 2011 and planning permission was being sought for conversion to private residences when it mysteriously caught fire. It seems unlikely that this would have done the developers' ambitions any harm...
