This Pub is Closed Long Term

The pub was designated as an Asset of Community Value on 20/04/2023. Wellington Pub Company appealed against this but their appeal was rejected. It seems that since then, rather than try to sell the pub, triggering the right to buy period, a change of use application was submitted 19/08/2025 for change of use into a single dwelling house together with internal alterations. This was under planning references PL/2025/06562 and PL/2025/06795. As of September 2025 a decision was pending.

Established in 1540 and nestling in the heart of the village this welcoming English country pub is a classic. A long-established family business, 17 consecutive years in the Guide and winner of more CAMRA awards than can be listed here, features a warm welcome, a thatched roof, spacious garden, large covered patio, flagstone floors, log fire and original timber beams. Full meals and snacks are available both lunch and evening (excluding Sunday evening).
