Nestling beside the River Windrush, this 18th-century inn oozes Cotswold charm. Outside walls are bedecked in wisteria while inside, photographs illustrate its rich heritage and connection with the Mitford sisters.

Three handpumps dispense cask ales and it has a good reputation for its locally-sourced, seasonal, menu.

An attractive garden and the bar area are dog-friendly.

Devotees of Downton Abbey may recognising it as a location used in series two.
