Plume of Feathers, Shrewton

Traditional pub with a fine display of hanging baskets in summer. The long bar top is formed from fine thick slabs of polished cedar and at each end of the bar there are pillars with carved images of a Green Man. These were carved by the landlord and are positioned to face the two doors, supposedly to ward off evil spirits. On the bar are two changing cask beers from Stonehenge Brewery. Curry is served on Tuesday, pie & mash on Thursday and a carvery on Sunday. It's best to call in advance to book a table. Formerly two cottages, built around 1800, and has been a village pub since about 1900 (the only pub left in the village out of six). It was extensively refurbished in 2022, into one long room, and a leather shoe was discovered in an old cobb wall, dating from about 1800, and is displayed where it was found. The tradition was that the owner of the shoe, and their house, would be protected from evil spirits. There is interesting information about it where it is displayed.
