Orchard Inn, Bristol

A frequent winner of CAMRA Cider Pub of the Year awards, including the national award in 2009, this unassuming friendly backstreet local is close to the floating harbour and SS Great Britain. Around 15 flat and 7 fizzy ciders are served, with real cider regularly supplied by Rich's, Hecks (who make the house cider), Ashridge and others. Beer drinkers are welcome, with two regular cask ales and one guest, often from Bristol breweries such as Arbor and Bristol Beer Factory, served from the casks behind the bar or fetched from the cellar. Alongside the cider and cask ale on offer, there is a large, varied range of keg and canned beers, many from local breweries. Live music includes a regular Monday night blues jam session, making use of the pub piano and a monthly Irish session. A TV in the raised stage area shows occasional sports, and a regular quiz night proves popular. The pub is certified as 'away friendly' for Ashton Gate fixtures and therefore is usually busy on match days opening at 11am. Locally sourced rolls, pasties and pork pies are available until they sell out for the day. Dogs are welcome, and children until 9pm.
