The pub closed in June 2024. A community group has set up a community benefit society (The Lion Tavern Community Hub Limited) with the eventual aim being to buy the freehold of this pub from its owners, Stonegate. In Jan 2025 the group announced that Stonegate was refurbishing the pub and was interviewing prospective tenants.
