Apparently the largest thatched pub in the country, the Old Crown was built in the 1930s, replacing an older pub on the site. Structurally, little has changed since apart from the removal of one internal wall. Centrally located imposing bar. The parquet floor is original but the fireplace is repro. Much of the pub is taken up by three dining areas although there is still space for drinks only customers. A floor to gable southwest facing window allows sunlight to flood in. Rear decking area with large garden beyond.

Following a six-figure refurbishment it reopened in early February 2018. It then had a couple of of changes of leaseholders. On 1 August 2024 the pub reopened under new licensees as part of the Lapen Inns group offering Nepalese cuisine. Its beers are supplied by Greene King but not always brewed by them.
