Largely open plan but with four distinct areas: bar, lounge, restaurant area at the back, and a small snug by the front door. Children are welcome anywhere. Dogs on leads are welcome in all parts other than the restaurant. In 1850 the pub was owned by a John Dutton and the landlord was John Prince. The pub predates both the Shropshire Union Canal and the Nantwich to Market Drayton Railway and is located on what was then the Market Drayton to Nantwich turnpike road. The pub name relates to Stapleton Cotton, the first Viscount Combermere.

Opens Bank Holiday Mondays.

Historic Interest

Originally a many-roomed Burtonwood pub, with bespoke doors, including vault and two snugs. Lovely etched door and wood-paneled hallway. Subsequently refurbished, twice, and is now open plan, but still with a proper pub ambience.
