A former coaching inn, dating from at least 1600, with an interior divided by exposed beams and wooden posts into a number of comfortable seating areas. An old lantern in the main bar, advertising Watney's Red Barrel, may bring a wry smile to some real ale fans. A large restaurant at the back provides plenty of seating for diners, though no food is served on Sunday evenings. The real ales sometimes include those from smaller regional breweries.
In late 2025 the owners for the previous 37 years sold the pub to Trust Inns and left the pub in December.
