17th-century, Grade II-listed town pub retaining many original features such as exposed low beams, large fireplaces and an internal cellar. The large, fenced garden sits on probable Saxon-age town ramparts.
The house beer (Cross Keys - House Bitter, brewed by Amwell Springs) may be swapped with another local beer. Dark beers are often sold, plus limited edition beers from the Dead Brewers' Society.
Pop-up food stalls are present at the rear of the pub from Wednesday to Sunday, the operators offer varying food choices - check the Facebook page for details including timings.
Reopened May 2022 having closed in April 2022 while the pub was refurbised inside and out following a change of ownership from the Brakspear pub co to Oak Taverns.
