It's a steady old climb to the lower reaches of the Long Mynd at Picklescott from the A49 at Dorrington, or indeed from Ratlinghope to the west. However, the reward is a beautifully located and visually attractive pub in a peaceful and pretty village. The pub's interior is low beamed with a welcoming and cosy atmosphere, which is a relief for intrepid winter travellers. The public bar is probably the real gem of the rooms in the pub with its log fire seemingly burning for the most of the year. However, there are other rooms providing the same rustic feel. There's a large restaurant, together with two comfortable lounge/dining rooms one of which is lined with bookshelves.

Historic Interest

The pub was first licensed in 1837, before that it was a farmhouse. The original village pub was in the building across the car-park next to the road junction. It was called 'The Gate Hangs Well', known to have been an alehouse from c1600 to c1800.
