Large corner building situated in a prominent position at the centre of the town. With the arrival of the railway in the 1850s, the Crown (as it was then) became a local institution thanks to its proximity to the Station just down the hill. As a result the former Inn expanded into a Hotel, such was its dominance in the town that for many years after it was simply known as 'The Hotel'. It reverted to its public house status following a fire in 1968.

It reopened in March 2024 after a two year closure. It subsequently closed again, reopening in October under new management. It was prevously a bit dingy, but it has been cleaned up and is now much brighter.

Within, there are two bars. The bar to the left has a pool table. dart board, fruit machine and a large screen TV, the lounge to the right is a bit more sedate. Leading off the lounge is a large, at present unsused restaurant area.
