This friendly town centre pub opposite Winchester Guildhall offers a changing array of five cask ales, mostly from local breweries, plus a real cider. Children are welcome in the bar until 8pm. At the rear of the pub there is an outdoor eating/drinking/smoking area which includes a converted double garage heated by an enormous log burner. Barbecues are held in the garden from 10.30pm every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and there is a late night menu from 10.30pm to 3am Sunday to Wednesday.

Confirmed reports March 2024 said the the number of handpumps has been reduced to three with only one serving cask ale, the other two serving non-real cider.
