White Swan, Hebden Bridge

Originally known as the Bridge End, since it stands opposite the ancient bridge over Hebden Water, this is now a classic community pub. Once a Ramsden's house, it's mock Tudor interior has been tastefully opened out to create an ideal place for drinking and eating. As you enter, you're drawn to the polished bar-lounge and its fireplace, above which hangs an interesting collection of china jugs. A line of round tables, covered with tablecloths, stand below the windows that look out towards the bridge, whilst the walls are well decorated with pictures and poems. To the right is a larger room, used for diners in the evenings, which has been nicely extended into a back room via a big arch. Here you'll find old lamps and brassware hanging from the ceiling, a glass case of trophies and pictures of football and cricket teams. Entertainment consists of live music, sports television (not Sky) and occasional quizzes.
